Historical City of Anuradhapura
Anuradhapura is one of the most historic cities in Sri Lanka. This city is located around 205kms north of Colombo. It is the capital city of North Central Province, and is considered the cradle of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. The city is home to ancient Buddhist temples, monasteries & shrines spread over 40 square Kilometers. So that huge network has made it a place of worship for Buddhists all over the world. Being well known for its cultural and religious value, the city attracts many local and foreign visitors who love to explore the ancient history of Sri Lanka. The old section of Anuradhapura, now preserved as an archaeological park and designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982.
The city of Anuradhapura was found by a Minister of King Vijaya (King Vijaya was the first recorded King of Sri Lanka mentioned in ancient Sri Lankan Pali Chronicles) whose name was Anuradha.
In the 4th century, King Pandukabhaya made it his Kingdom and This was the First established kingdom of ancient Sri Lanka and the Sinhalese people.
